Qty:
Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. The renowned design has a screw mechanism that easily allows the blade to be varied in depth relative to the sole to change the depth of cut.
Low Angle Block Plane
A block plane is small enough to be used in one hand and is designed for cutting end grain and making trimming or fine adjustment cuts. The low angle ensures that this block plane is especially good when used on end grain. The plane has a modified body casting to make it more responsive in use and a finer pitch blade adjustment thread for improved blade setting accuracy. An adjustable nosepiece allows the mouth to be opened or closed to accommodate coarse or ultra-fine shavings, this nosepiece is secured in place with a knurled brass knob. A 35mm wide, 25° bevelled blade is seated at 12° within the plane, giving an effective angle of 37° for end grain work. The plane has an overall length of 165mm and weighs 850g.
Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features heavy, stress relieved ductile iron castings which are precision machined to ensure the soles are flat and square to the sides. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large bronze cap iron with an integrated palm rest which allows the plane to nestle snugly in the hand. ©
